Book review: That’s Not My Puppy by Fiona Watt and illustrated by Rachel Wells

Welcome to my latest blog post which is celebrating a series of board books that have turned 20 years old!

That’s Not my… books are a popular board book series for babies and up. There are now over 50 books in the collection including That’s Not My llamas, bees and hedgehogs. And did you know one That’s Not my… book is sold every minute in the UK!That's Not My Puppy

The series all began with That’s Not My Puppy however initially Peter Usborne did not approve of the “negative sounding” board books. I’m sure he’s pleased now that he changed his mind. To celebrate Usborne books have released a special edition copy of That’s not my puppy…. The book includes fluffy textures, bumpy paws and amazing gold edged pages.

Thats Not My Puppy gold pages

The little white mouse in the book is looking for it’s puppy. On each double page you meet a puppy but it’s not the right one. It’s tail is too fluffy, or the paws are too bumpy. As well as the bright, engaging illustrations each feature mentioned is tactile. The book is a brilliant one for very young children, exploring new vocabulary and developing sensory awareness.

As it is the 20th year of these brilliant board books being published you will see me sharing more of these lovely reads as I’m working with Usborne books. Do keep your eyes peeled for newly published releases, special announcements and I’ll be hosting a guveaway next month.
