Luna Loves Art by Joseph Coelho and Fiona Lumbers is such a lovely read which cleverly weaves together various themes including friendship.
Readers accompany Luna on her school trip to the art gallery. This is the sequel to Luna Loves Library Day.

In this book the story begins at her dads home, Luna’s parents are separated. She is very excited for her school trip and her mum is one of the class helpers.
As Luna and her class explore the art gallery, readers are introduced to a variety of artists and their work, from Van Gogh’s famous sunflower painting to Louise Bourgeois spider sculpture.

Fiona Lumbers art work is absolutely wonderful throughout and she brilliantly creates the intrigue of an art gallery. Famous paintings and sculptures are so recognisable and as the story progresses we see how art can really bring out various feelings. This is particularly true for one of Luna’s classmates.

Finn seems sad throughout his visit to the gallery and it’s when he see’s Henry Moore’s Family Group sculpture that we start to understand why. Joseph Coelho’s writing here is brilliant as Luna’s mum comforts Finn. As the story then continues we see Luna and Finn form a friendship through art and it is just so lovely to witness.

If you are yet to read this book I highly recommend you seek it out. Another fabulous book created by a brilliant author, illustrator team.
