Kindness Makes Us Strong by Sophie Beer is wonderful. Published by Caterpillar books the read is a sweet board book for my youngest, Baby, and one that’s been a thought provoking one for my 3 year old. We’ve talked lots about the title, Kindness makes us strong.

The book shares that kindness doesn’t need to be made up of huge gestures, it can be little things that really make someones day. Cheering a friend on as they run in a race, sharing stationary with a pal, helping a neighbour water their plants. Together these little acts, make us, a community stronger.

My 3 year old described the front cover as a happy one, I think so to and then there is the adorable colourful spreads throughout. The details amongst the illustrations embracing different cultures and families are lovely to observe. Like the sari that a woman is wearing on one page, the dumpling the boy is offering to a friend while using chopsticks, the family outdoors camping.

Various scenes and examples of kindness equip readers with the knowledge that kindness can happen anywhere and by each of us.
