July 30th marks international Friendship Day so in honour of the day I wanted to share a newly published picture book.

My Friends is great book encouraging readers to talk about friendships and the positive attributes and talents their friends have.

For those of you who have little ones due to start school soon this is a great one to share with them. It represents that friendships don’t have to be when you’re inseparable and that you may have something in common with them that you really like sharing with them.

Written and illustrated by Max Low readers can discover what makes someone’s friends very special. Written in first person readers are introduced to different playfully illustrated characters. “I’ve made some friends. Would you like to meet them?”

The book is simply written, colourful and engaging but really highlights that no two people or friends are the same and that you can have friendships with many different people. It also shares that sometimes you may want to be on your own and that’s ok too.

This would be a lovely book to share at home and in a learning setting that could promote chats around positive friendships and emotions.
