Book review: Festivals and Celebrations by Sandra Lawrence and illustrated by Jane Newland.

This dinky sized, colourful read takes you on a journey around the world informing readers of festivals, historical happenings and days embracing being together with family and friends.

The book includes Chinese New Year, Merrie Monarch Festival celebrated by Hawaiians and the colourful festival of Holi.

The book is a good resource for a learning setting and would be great to use as a reference book. Do be mindful that this book doesn’t include every festival and faith based celebratory day. However, I’m sure it will teach you something new and a follow up activity with older children could certainly incorporate days of celebrations such as Eid that were not mentioned.

As the book is organised in seasons it makes the read easy to navigate through for readers who may want to investigate what forthcoming events are to occur.

The illustrations are super throughout the book and vividly represent the celebration being talked about.
