Book review: Once upon a Dragon’s Fire

You may recall a review I did of the splendid book Once Upon a Unicorn Horn. Well, author and illustrator Beatrice Blue has now created another book and March marked its publication by Frances Lincoln publishers. Once Upon a Dragon’s Fire has proved to be a popular read in our home.

I don’t think I’ve ever thought about how dragons got their fire but I adore this story that makes you question exactly that.

Dragons have had various roles in children’s literature, some fearsome, some adventurous and some rather jolly. The dragon in this book though is feared and rather lonely and without any fire, that is until he meets two rather brave little people, Freya and Sylas.

Beatrice Blue, has again created a rather intriguing read which puts a spin on the expected creating an engaging and memorable story. The illustrations are absolutely wonderful too, full of magic, awe and super detail.

I’m sure many of you will enjoy this book. Sometimes we can be fearful of things that we just don’t know enough about, perhaps swayed by what others tell us but this read reminds us that our wonderful minds are worth more then that.
