Book review: Oi Puppies! By Kes Gray and illustrated by Jim Field

October sees the latest picture book by award winning duo Kes Gray and Jim Field out for publication and I am so excited to share it with you. When the parcel arrived a few weeks ago my girls were super excited but I felt it was too much of a tease to share as early as that.

Similar to the others in the series, Oi Puppies! (Oi Frog and Friends) is full of silly, giggly, fun filled pages of rhyming goodness.

Kes Gray and Jim Field’s books never fail to delight my girlies. They are entertaining reads which are accessible to toddlers and up with their simple storyline and bouncy rhythmic text. The other books in the series include Oi Frog and Oi Goat but this one is packed with many a cute puppy.

There’s a huge problem though, as adorable as the puppies are they just won’t sit, not even on guppies. Readers can be assured though that Frog is on hand and he has some ideas to try. And guess what? He has those puppies sitting in no time.

The expressive illustrations against brightly coloured pages add so much to this book. Each character is so well illustrated and readers, like my daughters really get a feel for each of their unique characteristics.

As well as being a brilliant book to little readers at home I would highly recommend these for sharing in a learning setting. The book is the perfect rhyming read aloud and of course there are various teaching points including the rhyming which is presented in a super fun way.

I’m also rather excited at discovering that Oi Frog is being made into a play and come December you will be able to see a live performance. So far I’ve seen that the play will be shown in London theatres but shall keep a look out for updates. I’m sure that would be a rather fun watch.

The book will be published on the 3rd October but you are able to preorder it using the link below, should you wish to.
