Book review: Let’s Learn Japanese First Words for Everyone by Aurora Cacciapuoti

This fun, accessible read is a brilliant book for language lovers. Let’s Learn Japanese is a great introduction to the language and culture of Japan and one I would have found particularly useful when I visited Japan. A place that I thoroughly enjoyed exploring.

Aurora Cacciapuoti has created an engaging read that is split up into different categories. From animals to transportation, the book is a wonderful first word book as well as an introduction to the Japanese language.

At the start of the book it is explained that the Japanese writing system is made up of two types of syllabic alphabets, Hiragana and Katakana. It further explains that ideograms, adopted from Chinese called Kanji are also used and it is wonderful to see that alongside each word in the book, how it is written in Kanji and Kana are also displayed.

The illustrations are whimsical and fun throughout the book and the inclusion of Japanese culture make it a lovely book for young and older readers to explore.

Earlier this month Girls Day was celebrated in Japan and this would be a wonderful resource to use when exploring this celebration in a learning setting.

A delightful book.
