Book review: Nibbles Numbers by Emma Yarlett

This number-tastic board book is a must read for young ones and we were delighted to receive a copy from publishers Little Tiger Press.

The book is written and illustrated by talented Emma Yarlett. My girls are familiar with her character Nibbles, the book monster, after we met this yellow monster in our library. Emma Yarletts’s book Nibbles: The Book Monster, (published 2016) came home with us that day and it is such an  entertaining read which includes familiar traditional tales making it all that more appealing. Nibbles also features in a book Nibbles: The Dinosaur Guide (published 2017). We are yet to read this book but I have seen fantastic reviews about it. Now on to the latest publication that includes Nibbles.

Nibbles Numbers

Nibbles Numbers is a fun, interactive read all about numbers which Nibbles takes a delight in nibbling. From the sturdy board book format to its small nibbly peep holes, this is a well thought out read perfect for the youngest of readers.

Readers will delight in the fun front cover which is sure to get them intrigued and then it is on to meeting Nibbles, who happily stands behind a lift the flap and who is “…ready for some fun.”

The book takes readers on a journey of counting 1-10 accompanied by Nibbles who can’t seem to resist taking a bite or two of these delicious digits. The text makes it all that more engaging for little ones as it asks questions along the way and makes comments about Nibbles cheeky behavior. You can’t help but get excited when reading the book, it is really fun and makes for an absolutely brilliant read aloud. This would be a super book to share in a learning setting.

To accompany our read I made nibbles numbers using cardboard for my 2 year old. Perhaps these could be produced in wood Emma Yarlett? : )

My girls have loved reading this book. The book is an entertaining number read and we highly recommend it. Nibbles as cheeky as you are, you do make us smile.
