Jan Fearnley is a multi award winning author and illustrator of books including Mr Wolf. Little Robin Red Vest was first published twenty years ago. Since then publishers Nosy Crow have published a new edition complete with updated art work. This book is a rather sweet, charming read.
A week before Christmas this adorable Little Robin prepares his outfits of warm vests for the week. As the week goes by each day he spots lots of shivering animals so gives them his vests.
When Christmas Eve arrives Little Robin has no vest to wear but a Mr Claus arrives and gifts Little Robin a present.
Little Robin shares such a beautiful attribute with its young readers. Little Robin is thoughtful and kind and is so happy to give up his vests that he had excitedly prepared for the festive season. A wonderful character to introduce to readers which I’m sure will encourage much discussion around the topic of kindness. This would be a brilliant book to have at home but what a fantastic one to also use in a learning setting.
The illustrations throughout the book are scrumptious. It is a lovely read for toddlers and up, introducing different animals to readers and the backdrop of snowy, winter scenes are brilliant.
