Book review: We Wear Pants by Katie Abey.

Katie Abey is a talented illustrator whose work includes This Dog Loves You Too Much and a series Mindful Kids which is out later this year. We Wear Pants is a newly published book which Katie Abey wrote and illustrated.

We Wear Pants

With its cheery front cover and pant wearing animals this book is just super inviting and one preschoolers and up will adore. Each double page is filled with so much colour and detail for children to explore. The book isn’t a story book as such but more an interactive read encouraging children to answer questions, observe the different animals and witness exactly how animals wear clothes just like they do.

From pants, to pyjamas, the book explores all clothing (and accessories) and is a brilliant book to introduce new vocabulary to young ones and could be a great way of introducing little ones to dressing independently. The short bursts of text in speech bubbles are brilliant for emerging readers (like my eldest) and really add to the personalities of each animal character.

Children will find many parts of the book giggly, including Monkey who unlike all the animals on each double page, always has something different on in comparison to all his animal friends.

There is so much to explore and the plethora of animals, comical illustrations and different settings make this an engaging and fun read for young readers.

We made a craft to go with this book, a moving monkey in pants. My girls found this hilarious to complete.
