Introduce readers to voices of Palestine.

These four books would be a welcome addition to all libraries, all created by Palestinian book creators.

This moving read gently explores many memories a Palestinian father shares with his children. It is an intergenerational story filled with hope. So much culture is explored in this beautiful read with a sprinkle of playfulness too. The artwork throughout is wonderful. 

Sitti’s Secrets by Naomi Shihab and Nancy Carpenter. Published by Simon & Schuster.

Sitti’s Secrets by Naomi Shihab

Mona’s Sitti, grandmother lives far away from her, in a small Palestinian village. Mona  gets to visit her and though they don’t speak the same language, they make up their own together. Mona’s eyes are opened to her Sitti’s routines, the beautiful place in which she lives and the discovery of each others secrets. 

This is a touching read that is so beautifully illustrated.

Olive Harvest in Palestine by Wafa Shami and Shaima Farouki. Produced by Gate Advertising.

Olive Harvest in Palestine by Wafa Shami

This is a lovely one to share with readers, representing the importance of olive trees, the livelihood the trees provide and the strong connection it has to its land. The story is representative of community, working successfully together and touches on culture and tradition within the story.

We are Palestinian by Reem Kassis and Nona Eilouti.

This nonfiction book is a celebration of Palestinian heritage. It is written well exploring topics such as food, culture, religion, the history of significant symbols and more. Accompanied by modern art work, the book is a must have for all libraries.
