Nervous Nigel written and illustrated by Bethany Christou and published by Templar is a book that explores being nervous but also touches on acceptance, anxious feelings and family pressure.

It’s a book that will prove to be a brilliant resource and will make some readers consider how we can best support people when they are feeling so nervous.

Nigel comes from a family of successful swimmers. He enjoys the water too but unlike them he would rather float and just think about things. He doesn’t want to compete in races, in fact it makes him rather nervous. At first he responds to the encouragement from his family positively but it isn’t genuine. Then he tries to explain how he’s feeling but they just don’t get it. Then, well things get a little too much but amongst all the upset and worry Nigel thinks of a brilliant idea.

Written sensitively with a sprinkle of humour and super artwork, this will be a fabulous book that could encourage discussions about various emotions. Fabulous.
