Book review: Wishing for a Dragon by Becky Cameron.

Originally published in 2018 and now available in paperback, Wishing for a Dragon is a wonderfully illustrated read that takes readers on a journey of imaginative fun and discovery.

While night time falls and many children sleep, Olive, Barney and Ella are wide awake craving an adventure. Jungles and treasure are included amongst the list but young Ella longs to see a dragon. My daughters too are rather taken by these interesting creatures and consistently agree with Ella each time we share this story, normally with “Me too!”Extract from wishing for a dragon

The children all depart on a big balloon and they are able to tick off all their wishes but will Ella meet a dragon? The children meet teddy bear pirates, discover different animals in the jungle and they come across a magical land.

Ella patiently waits, wondering if her wish will be fulfilled. Readers also discover that something has been waiting for Ella also asking Ella, “What took you so long?”

Becky Cameron has created a super read that has certainly proved a rather cosy bedtime read in our home. Her art work is fantastic and we adore the way night and day is represented so well through the varied tones and colours.

This is Becky Cameron’s debut picture book which she has both written and illustated. I am excited to see what book she creates next.
